Sinar rePro Camera
Introduction
As a result of the rapidly growing demand for digitalization and the related requirement for efficient and effective archiving, the features required in a reproduction camera have changed considerably. Two critical factors in the design of a modern reproduction camera are convenient operation and the utmost in precision. And where a high volume throughput of subjects is to be digitized, an optimum workflow is a must because exposures which need repeating cause serious delays and add considerably to costs. These criteria were taken into account as major considerations in the development process of Sinar's new rePro camera. The result is a camera that meets the requirements of Reproduction Photography without limitations.
Precision
The legendary precision of Sinar view cameras for analog and digital photography is widely known and highly valued by professional users around the world. And the subject of sharpness has become significantly more important since the advent of digital photography. Therefore, to be assured of optimum results, it's especially important to use a camera which offers the right mix of features in terms of precision, stability and convenient operation. The new Sinar rePro is based on existing components of the legendary Sinar p3 camera. Its compact design is ideal for digital reproduction photography and this increases the overall stability of the camera for pixel-precise settings. Operating the ingeniously fast fine-focusing drive, make it very obvious that this high-end camera was crafted with high precision and the tightest of tolerances. The newly developed fine focusing drive is based entirely on the demands of digital photography – one full turn effects a change in distance of only 0.5 mm.
Modularity
Entirely in keeping with classic Sinar philosophy, the new Sinar rePro camera features the much admired modularity which is often praised by our Users. This means that all lens and shutter systems with the exception of CAB and which are already in use with the Sinar p3 camera, can also be used on the new Sinar rePro camera. In addition to the CPL (Copal) and CMV series lenses, the Sinar rePro will also accept lenses mounted in the new Sinar eShutters. Digital back support includes many Sinarback versions and several backs made by other manufacturers. These can readily be used by means of the appropriate adapters, many of which are already available for the Sinar p3 camera.
Operation
When compared with a studio view camera, the operating elements of the new Sinar rePro camera are limited strictly to the essential controls needed for efficient reproduction photography. The camera features a new and improved fast focusing system which makes for remarkably easy operation to assure a much more efficient workflow. When used with Sinar CaptureShop software and the new Sinar eShutters, the automation and setting of both aperture and shutter speeds in software make the operation of the camera effortless. This of course promises consistent and optimum results. One very desirable advantage is that camera precision tolerances are actually enhanced by the elimination of the swing and tilt mechanisms, making the Sinar rePro camera the most modern solution for applications in professional Reproduction Photography.
Suitable for High-Volume Digitisation
Sinar Cameras and Sinar Digital Backs already enjoy a significant market share in Government Institutions around the world. Whether used in State Libraries, Galleries or Museums, the Sinar rePro is the ideal tool for projects that require the archiving of important and valuable records and works of art.
Easy to Use
The Sinar rePro camera is easy to use whether operated by digital professionals or novice users alike.
Consistent & Reliable
Sinar's precision and proven quality promises consistent and reliable results making shooting large-volume projects a breese, by preventing errors in operation which in turn reduces the need for costly re-shoots.
Whatever your rePro digitisation project may be, it's likely the Sinar rePro camera may be the ideal solution!

Lens Shade 493.23.041

Why use a lens shade?
With an unprotected lens, bright stray light external to the subject area can reduce image contrast noticeably. And this is why a lens shade is an indispensable tool in Professional Photography. However, a lens shade can only provide best protection against stray light when it is optimally tailored to the picture angle of the lens. And because the sources of stray light are so diverse—and may vary with the properties of the many different types of lenses, Sinar offers two completely different lens shade solutions:
arTec Lens Shade
The one-piece Artec Lens Shade consists of two folding and two sliding panels and is affixed to the Lens Adapter Ring by means of a manual fastening screw. The Artec Lens Shade can be rotated freely around the Lens Adapter Ring, therefore it can be positioned accurately in order to exclude sources of stray light. In addition, the lens shade is designed for universal application and can be used with lenses of all focal lengths.
Dimensions: - folded: 168 x 145 x 12 mm
Dimensions: - When fully open: 285 x 275 x 12 mm
Weight: 190 g
Lens Shade made with existing Sinar Components:
The second lens shade option is a Bellows Lens Hood that can be assembled from existing components available within the Sinar Modular System. The following components are recommended:
Artec Rod Holder — 493.23.043
Filter Rod 16 or 25 cm — 472.71.000 or 472.81.000
Bellows Holder Clip — 473.31.000
Tapered Bellows 4x5/100 452.16.010
Lens Adapter Ring — appropriate to each lens being used.
Format Mask 48x36 mm 493.23.504
Format Mask 56x36 mm 493.23.601
Format Mask 54x40 mm 493.23.630
The metallic Format masks for the Sinar arTec camera have a precision cut-out matching the sensor size of the digital back to be used. And they're attached precisely over the focusing screen by means of eight magnets. This method of attachment facilitates a comfortable and easy change in format—from landscape to portrait orientation. All three masks are included as part of the scope of delivery for the Sinar arTec cameras.
Swiveling Circular Polarising Filter 546.31.010
Swiveling Linear Polarising Filter 546.31.000

The swiveling Sinar Polarizing Filter is mounted onto the Sinar arTec camera by means of the optional Rod Holder and the use of a Bellows/Filter Rod. In addition, the entire circular polarising filter can be rotated around the axis of the Filter Rod—by 180 degrees—to facilitate easy determination of the polarisation angle—without viewing through the lens. The filter itself can then be swung back into the optical axis—then pushed gently up against the lens along the Filter Rod—then locked in place as can be seen here.

Diameter of the Sinar Polarizing Filter: 110 mm
Rod Holder — 493.23.023

Filter Rod 11 cm — 472.61.000
Filter Rod 16 cm — 472.71.000
Filter Rod 25 cm — 472.81.000
Joint Rod — 472.51.000
The hexagonal Filter Rods are available in three fixed lengths but also in the following adjustable version:
The Joint Rod is equipped with two ball joints which can be locked in several positions.
White Shading Diffuser — 551.43.097

In practice, the principle is to make two exposures; a Shading File and "the" Image File. These two files will be subsequently processed together using the excellent "Shading Mode" feature built right into
Sinar's eXposure Software. To make a Shading File—after initially setting up the shot and determining correct exposure—the White Shading Diffuser is attached to the lens using a Filter Ring. Then a "Shading File" image is made using the exact same aperture, focused distance and any camera movements—set exactly as will be employed in the subsequent real image. However, for the shading shot, you typically need to increase the length of the exposure using shutter speed by around two f-stops to compensate for the exposure factor of the diffuser—but don't alter anything else. Sometimes there's a difference in exposure with variation either way—subject to how much ambient light is incident or reflects upon the diffuser—however, it's a relatively simple matter to alter the shutter speed setting only, in order to compensate. A good shading exposure has the histogram peak roughly positioned in the centre—or slightly higher, however, it is recommended not to over or under-expose the shading file for best results! Shading Correction Example Images

The first image was made with the Sinaron Digital 28mm HR lens with the White Shading Diffuser in place.
Lens casts and vignetting are immediately apparent. The second image shows the "shaded" result after Shading correction is applied in eXposure software and importantly, the shading correction is applied to a NEW dng file.
In the example above, 100% vignetting correction was applied. And in this case, the application of Sinar's Shading Correction has effectively equalised the tonal and spectral response for all pixels in the entire array. However, in the event you prefer to retain some of the natural vignetting or lens fall-off towards the image borders, you can optionally specify a lower vignetting setting in Sinar's eXposure software. The settings available are 0, 25, 50, 75 & 100%.
Here's the on-thumbnail setting used for the above shaded image example. In this case, the four white quadrants indicate that 100% vignetting correction will be used.
And by simply clicking these quadrants with the mouse, they can be toggled on and off to set other degrees of vignetting correction.

Sinar p3 Camera — 491.81.000 — A$8,420.50
The Sinar p3 camera is the perfect tool for digital photography.
Featuring high precision self-locking drives and convenient self-arresting movements.
Thanks to its smaller size and unique integrated cabling, the new Sinar p3 is the ideal choice for use with both Sinar and third-party digital backs.
Optimized for Digital Input
Digital imaging technology has revolutionized photography. Compared to conventional film of the same size, small sensor surfaces can record far more image information. Yet the creative fundamentals of photography have not changed. In view camera photography especially, this includes the capability of achieving desired pictorial effects with the judicious positioning of planes of sharpness and with optical perspective correction. Sinar has been a leader in the manufacture of view cameras for more than 50 years and is proud to have more than 10 years of experience as the leading supplier of high-end digital cameras.
Man as the measure of things
Sinar has succeeded in optimally combining the precision of the Sinar p line of cameras with the digital input of Sinarback digital backs. Thanks to a coupling frame that is 30% smaller, the imaging surfaces of Sinarback digital backs are optimally suited for swings and tilts. The self-locking drives allow highly precise focusing – the camera accurately maintains the settings. The human hand served as the reference guide for the size, shape and handiness of the operating elements, for smooth and precise work even in darkened rooms. Practical new ergonomic locks allow easy and quick changing of lenses, bellows and digital backs by just pressing them with a finger. Visual design elements give the Sinar p3 a trendy appearance.
Handy and only a single cable
The fully compatible Sinar Digital System allows the attachment of all Sinarback digital backs to the new camera with only one cable for data transmission and power supply. The Sinar p3 features integrated electrical couplings that directly connect the digital back with the shutter, thus reducing distracting cables at the camera to a minimum.
Sinaron Digital CMV lenses – with electronic between-the-lens shutter
The Sinaron Digital CMV Lens with an electronically controlled between-the-lens shutter is mounted on a lens board with 100 mm sides. This shutter makes absolutely vibration-free exposures possible as needed for Multishot with perfect colors (4-shot mode) or for the highest detail resolution (16-shot mode). The new between-the-lens shutter is controlled by the Sinar CaptureShop™ software. Therefore, no additional or separate controlling device is needed for the lenses.
Practical accessories
The adjustment settings and ranges of the new Sinar p3 view camera are optimized for use with Sinarback digital backs. The asymmetric swing and tilt axes can be displayed in the live image of the Sinar CaptureShop™, allowing an easy and pixel-accurate positioning of the plane of sharpness. In addition, an accessory standard, tailored to the size and to the adjustment range, is available for bellows extensions or for the use of a bellows as a lens hood.
The Sinar p3 is fully integrated into Sinar modular system. This means that the 4x5” carrier frame and digital accessories of the Sinar p2 can be attached to the Sinar p3 by means of a tapered bellows and effortless ease. This also applies to the use of Sinar digital back adapters as well as the Sinar Macroscan for greatly increased resolution (up to 144 million pixels) and a greater digital imaging area (up to 6x6 cm). It also applies to the use of a Sinar p3 for chemical photography with roll film holders and sheet film up to 4x5”.

Camera Configuration Chart
Here's a downloadable Excel file which shows the numerous digital camera configurations presently offered by Sinar. (Q1/2009) This is intended to give a quick overview in a very condensed way. In the past, these lists have proven to be very helpful for the determination of individual components necessary for each kit's functionality. This efficient tool certainly helps you get a better understanding of what's required—and should reduce mistakes such as wrong item numbers or missing accessories. To find the desired combination, please proceed as follows:
1. Which Camera do you want to work with?
Check with the table of contents and then see column 1.
2. Which Sinarback shall be used with the above camera?
See column 2.
3. The Recommended Configuration is listed in column 3.
4. The corresponding Sinar code number is listed in column 4 and the item's Category in column 5. The document does not contain any prices in column 6.
5. Some items are marked with an Index number 7. The respective caveats and explanations are listed on the last page of the price lists in section 8.
