Dicomed Field Pro Scanning Back
A battery operated portable unit for 4x5" cameras.

The software will operate any stock Dicomed scanning camera on nearly any Macintosh, including older 68040 machines. While not as full-featured as Dicomed's later software packages, this software may be more efficient in many production environments; it can also serve as a " second opinion" diagnostic tool for troubleshooting scan back problems. Since this software requires less than 5 MB of RAM, it may also prove useful when running the scan back from a laptop computer.

The Dicomed scanning back (1996) is a state-of-the art device with a fastest Line Time exposure of 1/50 second and with a maximum daylight ISO capability of around 400 ISO. The Line-Time exposure is adjustable in 1/3 f-stop increments over a range from 1/8 sec. per line to 1/50 sec. per line. ISO sensitivity can be adjusted over another two f-stops (using daylight color balance) in full-stop increments. It has a prescan time of around 20 seconds, plus another 15 seconds for the scanning mechanism to move to its starting position. The fastest final scan time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds for a 6,000 x 7,520 pixel, 24-bit RGB image. A three kilogram battery contained in the case operates the scanning back with both serial and SCSI connections to the computer.

Rodenstock Soft Focus 250mm f/5.8 Imagon-H Lens with Copal 3 Shutter
The Imagon uses an achromat doublet which is uncorrected for spherical aberration, and the well-known "sink strainer" aperture grilles. It is one of the classic soft-focus "portrait lenses". Though most Imagons are mounted in shutters which have normal (though unmarked) aperture iris controls, the aperture is controlled by one of three supplied aperture grilles. Each grille has an open central portion, noted with an "h-stop" designation which approximates the corresponding f-stop, surrounded by a series of smaller variable-opening holes. By rotating the outer rim of the grille, the opening of these smaller holes can be changed, and by this the amount of softness is also changed. Wider h-stops, or more-open holes, mean more softness. One hazard of using such a lens is that when rotating the aperture grille, there is the possibility of focus shift. The photographer must verify that the plane of focus is correct after setting the desired amount of softness.
Also includes a 4X ND filter and small lens hood.
